Interview for ARBOR MUNDI e-mag (http://arbormundi.t2u.com. or http://arbormundi.tk): - Hi, Radek! Please, introduce Napalmed to our readers and tell a few personal informations about you and the other persons that help you to do this album. Tell us the history of Napalmed. Hi and readers! I started NAPALMED as a band in the middle of `94. We used musical instruments in the beginning (two bass guitars, drums), but the final production was kind of noisecore, what we didn't want, so through the time we changed the stuff, some members and experimentating. The actual/main line-up is now: Petr Kopecky, Mira Vlcek, Martin Beraxa & me, Radek Kopel. These boys created all live performances same as some studio recordings. Others I recorded by myself. - What can you tell us about "Never mind the MSBR, here's the MBFR"? What mean the album title? Why you made only 2 songs, but so long (ED. 15' and 56'!!!)? What are the reactions of the mags/'zines for this release until now? A some time before the recording this album NAPALMED has changed line-up. I found new guys O.K., so we went to rehearsal room to create new recording, as we do usually. Raw sound materials was so good, I started to think about full album. To say the truth, "Never mind..." isn't NAPALMED's debut album, as we recorded "Up to the tinnitus" album, in the old line-up. It was released too, just in small edition of #100 copies as a picture-LP on EPIDEMIE records (Czech republic). This is our "official" debut, even I couldn't name it this word. CD version will come out some day in different, longer version. Ask for possible release. Oher albums in our archive too. "Never mind the MSBR, here's the NAPALMED" is a tribute and respect title to SORE THROAT's album "Never mind the NAPALM, here's the SORE" (they were respect/fuck SEX PISTOLS and NAPALM DEATH). I try to do the similiar to SORE THROAT and japanese well-known MSBR). You could see the 'musical and artistic' continuation here, even each band has absolutely different roots. We create just two songs as this is way of our work. We started the recording and we stop at the same time we feel it is enough or we became repetitive. More, the complete line-up studio sessions are similiar to our live performances shows. NAPALMED normally do one, max. two improvisative compositions on the stage. Reactions (sometime reviews) are same as music/noise itself - extreme. I spread over 400 copies of the promo CDs. I'm still waiting for the reviews on them. You can print the published few of them. - That album is one of the most difficult to listen I ever heard. Your music is very strange. Who do you think should listen to your music? What was in your mind when you made it this album? How is to play live this kind of music? It's absolutely great you found our album/music difficult to listen and strange. This is the right way. Much important thing is you listen it nad do you personal view. Great should be if our music/noise listen as many listeners as possible. The rest is on their own. May be some of them will found our shit interesting. Be sure nothing special was in our mind, except to do the things the best way we can, we normally do. Therefor our "Never mind..." albums is similiar to our live. - What can tell us about the split-album with Merzbow? The first idea and an offer from MERCILESS CORE records was to do that album with japanese band the GEROGERIGEGEGE. I don't know the real reason, but GERO was slow, so I ask mr. Akita. He sent all stuff in return. MERCILESS CORE rcds release two edition of this split-CD in financial co- production of NAPALMED. Each edition has a different version of cover. - In your music, technology has a great importance. Do you think that is just a medium for humanity or, as a lot of people said it will annihilate human fantasy? What fascinates you about technology? NAPALMED was born from TECHNOLOGY. We live in the era of TECHNOLOGY. I work in the industrial area, in the big chemical factory. I know very well there are many bad things in TECHNOLOGY. But we tried to pick up, to show the better sides of its, recycle unwanted materials, find them interesting/artistic, etc. - What can you tell us about your concept of extreme not only in music? Give us your concept of ART. I feel our noise lay in the line of "extreme" musical styles: rock, metal, core, etc... For sure there are many differencies for listeners, but not for me. No concept of ART. I though about that alot. May be the style, quality of production and sound this is my concept. - Do you want to transmit anything through your music or have we to consider it just as your own way to express yourselves with your music? Both possibilities are available on my mind. I express myself in the musix and graphix, and we transmit the invisible sounds about strange things in our daily life. They are ampliffied through us, through our TECHNOLOGY we use, but some people even don't hear them too. - If your music could be express through images, which kind of figures and colors could better describe it? As you can see on the cover of our debut album, may be all colours and many pictures are there. Of course they are collaged by a little help of me, there are used images in the same/near around technical range, what could be named as an "artistic invention". The rest depends on the people, their fantasy and imagination. - What does silence mean to you and which occasions do you feel and listen to it? Silence is the same for me as its opposite - noise. First thing, there isn't absolute silence for the people, except the space in vacuum. Therefor all is sound. We tried to do experiments with wide range of sounds. Transfer them hearable to the people. I uses short cuts of silence on our live shows, and I found this very interesting and useful. These silent spaces are not like pauses among the tracks, but they all creates final composition(s). - How is the situation in Underground scene from Czech Republic? Tell us about the mags/zines, bands, labels involved into this kind of think of live in your country. Czech Republic is very small land. I think huge underground here (inc. Slovakia - what was part of us), mainly the metal/punk/rock. Many zines too. Also industrial activities here anf\d there, mainly around the capitol Prague. Nothing more to add from me, sorry. - Is it your first interview for Romanian magazine? What you know about my country? I was interviewed by Dan Adrian from ARDEAL zine. This is my second intierview for romanian zine. I know some underground persons there. As I know, your country is one of the poorest post-communistic countries. The dead fucker Caucescu and the rest communistic pigs turns your land to shit. My friend and co-player Petr Kopecky travelled your land, history places and he founded it wonderful. All the best to all romanian people. - What are the albums, artists and books that change it your life? What is philosophy of your life? What person you are? I can't judge my person. I try to live and let live, think about myself. Of course criticise the fucking shitty things around me. I'm possessed by japanese culture, mainly the musicians. I collect, and listen too all uncommercial japanese artists on CDs and vinyls. I read books about Japan too. No free time to do other things. - Allen Ginsberg says somewhere: "Death is the remedy all singers dream of, sing, remember, prophecy." What is your opinion about that? I don't know this, it sounds a bit interesting. This is theme to communicate, but my english isn't good, so it hard for me. No concept of death, mass murderers, sexual abuse, pessimism in NAPALMED's creation. I feel any of these themes could help us to large audience, but we don't care. We try to do music optimistic, sincerely, from the heart. Do as much experiments as possible. No drugs, no alcohol help us. "Our noise is our truth." - Many thanks for spending with me your time and I hope to hear about you soon. These last lines are for you... I thank you and of course readers. A big sorry about so long delay in answering. Too much things in the life. Make your mind, eyes, ears open for the new unknown things. You could start with w/NAPALMED. Communicate! You could start w/me. Let's trade music, flyers, ...
