POETIC e-zine. 1. I've heard much of NAPALMED due to tons of flyers spread throughout UG but happened to hear your noise only now. So, are you a fully fledged band - several guys playing instruments? Introduce your band and tell us more about your story! I send really tons of the flyers through my post, but not extra response on them. It seems to me the underground people are mostly the same one (I mean the active ones > you know who you are!). NAPALMED starts in the mid `94 as a regular band, not a project. I recorded sometimes by myself only, but the main spirit is the common work and multi communication. All other members (except me) in the old line up play instruments (two basses and drums). We stopped use them fast and follow with the use of metals, plastics, woods, prepared electronix, different microphones, etc... 2. How do you compose your noise then? I prepare all the equipments, stuff and the other things and we recorded. At the start of the session or live performance we only talked about the final/common feeling and production. Sometime it is very loud and noisy and sometimes we are "soft and silent". It depends on the vibrations of the each member. Some recordings I made by myself, to practice/find the sounds, effects, equipment. 3. What do abbreviations MSBR and MBFR mean? MSBR is the wellknown japanese noise band and MBFR are the first letters of the members (Mira, Beraxa, Franta, Radek), who recorded this album. It is/was the first recording in completely new-line up. 4. What are your musical favourites and do appreciate more commercial noise like famous industrial bands? I think it is impossible for me to write all the artists, bands, and music at all I like, love and die for. Some of them are ANAL CUNT, the WHO, ALPHAVILLE, MERZBOW, the NICE, NENEH CHERRY, MEAT SHITS, CARCASS, JIMI HENDRIX, MASONNA, NAPALM DEATH, URIAH HEEP, FRANKIE GOES TO HOLYWOOD, KAZUMOTO ENDO, JUDAS PRIEST, PAINKILLER, GEROGERIGEGEGE, NAKED CITY, AC/DC, ..... of course czech-slovak "uncommercial" scene, jazz, ambient, contemporary music, minimalism, ethno and world music, electro, techno, garage punk/pop/rock/... + millions of others. Really hard for me to named all here. 5. You also do a big job - running a label, making splendid compilations! Tell us more of it! Aren't you tired of such activity? NAPALMED is a label and distribution too. Both unofficial and small. The ANOMALOUS SILENCER CD compilation series is the main thing of the label. It is self-paid system compilation and very soon will be out #5 of it. 37 international artists on the space of 80 minutes. Each issue is #500 limited with an extra package. You are right, I'm tired and powerless sometimes, but I love the underground communication, music, correspondence, ... 6. Do also listen to such underground stylistic manifestations like grind core, death and black metal? Not extra special interest in black metal, or doom/death types. Grindcore and noise core is the best for me, because a lot of energy, power and aggression. Metal style is a bid empty and well/known for me. I listen to it since the 80s, so... 7. Do you know any experimental freaks from ex-USSR states? I am/was in touch with some of them > Dmitryi Lychagin (DAC prod), Phillip Wolokitin (One Touch rcds) and some others (metal heads and activists). 8. Is there any poetry within your creativity? No poetry or something like that. I'm possessed by the sounds themselves. Our creativity is spontaneous, abstract and no-wave. 9. You also make cover artwork all by yourself. Is this mere abstraction or something really deep and serious? Same as our sound production, artwork I made for our releases is abstract too. I cut, rip, etc. paper pictures, newspapers, magazines printscapes and make a collages of them. Sometimes there is an idea, but mostly the are absolutely free and no-named. Great is a few people like them too. 10. You mention "no copyrights, no sponsors or other shit. Copy and use free!". Have there been many people ready to pay? The "Never mind the MSBR, here's the NAPALMED" recording where these words are written is means to be our full lenght CD album. It will be completely self-released by me. Therefor no other cash. I know about the underground releases which are sponsored, etc. Copy and use free is the simple too. Some people ask me if they can use some part or track. So this way is the info much simple. 11. I wonder, does NAPALMED play any gigs and what does your show look like? We performed live once per month or two. The next live shows will be on 24.11.2001 and 22.12.2001. On the stage my co-players made sounds and I manipulated them and mixed them together with my noises and voice. 12. Do you experiment much in your common life? Many things in my life have to be "in the line". My family, job, some personal thing. Therefor I have got these free time activities to run out of the normal life. 13. Any final noise cheers? I think nothing more to say. Thanx for the time, interest and space. Take care! Feel free to contact me for the info and all available stuff. 14. Tell the readers about the new split with legedary japanese MERZBOW!! Some time ago we receive a deal from the MERCILESS CORE RECORDS [Czech Republic] for the split release w/the GEROGERIGEGEGE. I contacted them and MERZBOW together, but Masami Akita of MERZBOW was faster, communication with him was much simple, clear and straight. It takes some time to do that, but all is complete and the release date of the split CD "Crash of the Titans" is 1.12.2001. Be aware of the 74 minutes of harsh noise and silence. _________________________________________________________________ Radek Kopel, Lipova 1123, 43401 Most, Czech Republic, napalmed@volny.cz
