NAPALMED/TALONOV NET - Fabricunts instead picnic CD-R __________________________________________________ http://www.laylah.net LAYLAH #12 (Spain) Napalmed (Czech Republic) and Talonov Net (Russia) are polar sonic opposites, but just as Malevich's "White on White" and Pollock's enormous splatter paintings can be seen as formulations of the same arguments about the boundaries of visual art and the grammar of human expression, so Napalmed's glassy environmental noise and Talonov Net's speaker-shredding processor experiments can be seen as facets of a single compound attempt to represent, in sound, the tension between the versions of ourselves that people carry with them in their souls and the ones we brick into walls as we build them around us. "Fabricunts instead Picnic" (released on 2000) is a wonderful split of six tracks plus a bonus. The first part of the work, occupying the tracks #1, #3, #5 & #7 (seven compositions), consists on manipulations of field recordings by Napalmed. Sometimes is possible to hear recognisable snippets of sounds in some vague likeness of its natural state, but at the second section (the rest of the CD) by Talonov Net, the sound has reverted to pure wonderful roar. From Napalmed, my favourite track is "Burd (OSA)", the bonus piece consisting on sound mutilations made by Napalmed from field recordings, and exploratory distortions; from Talonov Net is "Anstatau Pikniko Vive" to feel the magic of an unremitting acoustic torture. As with most Napalmed recordings, I realise that very many people will think this sound experience is very desirable. Crypt Vihâra __________________________________________________ http://www.neo-zine.com NEO-ZINE #17 (USA) Napalmed utilized field recordings, MD samples, microphones and pedal effects. Both bands provide some well put together experimentation, with a lot to offer even the casual listener. The problem... well, the stereo reads the tracks way differently than they are listed, and I lost track of who was playing on each listening. I do like the creeping soundscapes a lot more than the twisted metal sounding of harsh destruction. Good variety, no boredom. Keeps you awake!
