NOISE CONGLOMERATE vol. 2 v/a CD-R __________________________________________________ AVERSION ONLINE 10/00 (USA) Daruin starts things off here with a great dark ambient track consisting of high pitched and loud, painful treble. Ironically it’s not a harsh track, but instead one with disturbing, ethereal qualities. It’s great to hear something new from a Japanese project like this. Excellent. Unfortunately, the next several bands are less impressive. Monobrain’s track contains samples leading into a very lo-fi harsh noise piece. While the lo-fi recording sounds wonderful and achieves an awesome effect, the track is somewhat boring. Similarly, Government Alpha is more harsh noise from Japan that is relatively uninteresting. Vita-Verbum-Lux is up next with a track that sounds ironically similar to the preceding track, and is therefore not saying much for originality. Next is Reynols, who perform several tracks of harsh noise. I’m confused as to which track is which, but some are boring, loud, harsh compositions while others are very interesting and fucked up experimental styles. Nice variety. Rounding things out is Napalmed, which is again another bland harsh track. This CD comes packaged in a simple xeroxed cover wrapped in cellophane. The cut-and-paste layout of the inner sleeve is terrific! Great arrangements and visually interesting graphics make for an effective, yet basic presentation. In my opinion, the audio contents of the CD are just not diverse enough to be interesting for the duration of the playing time. if you are into standard harsh noise, you might likely disagree with me, though… 5 / 10
